Short Salkantay Trek was designed for people who have a pretty short time in Cusco. It takes people through magical changes of biodiversity and landscapes plus one day to Explore Machu Picchu. This trek is for experienced trekkers, people in reasonable shape, and hikers looking for a moderately challenging hike.

Soraypampa - Chaullay or Colpapampa

  • Breakfast with last tips and suggestions from our guide to you.

Day 1: Soraypampa – Chaullay or Colpapampa

On your first day we will pick up you from your hotel or hostel about 3 a.m. for a drive with our private transportation to Soraypampa where our chef and team work will prepare our first breakfast. After breakfast we will start the most challenging part of our trek: approximately 7 ½ kilometers uphill past a moraine and glacier to reach the Salkantay Pass 4645 meters, then we have a 2 hours downhill trek to our lunch spot. After lunch we will cover appox. 16 more kilometers to reach our campsite. During this hike down we will have spectacular views of the mountains, the imposing snowy peak of Salkantay and the valleys below.

When we get to our camp in Chaullay or Collpapampa, (2900 masl) in the evening, your tents will be waiting for you with hot water to wash your hands and face. Then we’ll have our happy hour and share stories, rest or write in our journals while our chef prepares a delicious dinner. Then it will be time to sleep and get our energy back for the next day.

DURING THE TREK:

Day 2: Chaullay – La Playa (sahuayaco) – Aguas calientes

We will rise early to begin our walk through the Lluskamyo valley without others on the trail, enjoying the biodiversity—rich textures, colours, birds and wild parrots as we pass by local farms. Your guide will give you a taste native fruits and food. The temperature in this valley is one of the best in all trek in not too hot and not too cold. Perfect temperature to walk and enjoy you tour. After 16 km or about 6 hours walking we will arrive at La Playa where we will enjoy the last meal we will have on the trek with all our team. before saying good bye to them.

Then we will drive 45 minutes to hidroelectrica where you will decide to take the train for a 45 minutes or walk 3 hours approximately to Aguas Calientes where you will spend the night. When you have settled into your hotel we’ll have dinner. Your tour leader will give you all information that you will need for the best experience in Machu Picchu the next day.

DURING THE TREK:

  • Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
  • Accommodations: Lucmabamba Camping.
  • Maximum Altitude: 2920 meters.
  • Minimum Altitude: 2156 meters.
  • Temperature during day: 17ºC – 25ºC
  • Temperature during night: 13ºC – 15ºC
  • Hiking Distance: 16 km approx.

Day 3: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu Sanctuary – Aguas Calientes – Ollantaytambo – Cusco

Today early in the morning after breakfast at the hotel you can walk 3 hours or take the first bus up to Machu Picchu. This way we will be the first ones into Machu Picchu and can enjoy the sunrise in this magnificent place. Then you will have a 2½ hour guided tour. Afterward you will be free to explore Machu Picchu by yourselves. If you may choose to climb Huayna Picchu or climb to the top of Machu Picchu Mountain. When you have seen all you wanted in Machu Picchu you will return to Aguas Calientes town by foot or bus to take a train to Ollantaytambo. From there we drive you by private van back to Cusco where you will be dropped off at your hotel or hostel.
