Day 1: Welcome to the Amazon & Night Safari
Upon your arrival in Puerto Maldonado, your team will greet you at the airport or bus station. You’ll then begin a transfer through the city before heading to the port.
You’ll board a motorized boat and travel along the Madre de Dios River for approximately 1 hour until you reach your jungle lodge. Upon arrival, you’ll receive an introduction to the surroundings and settle into your bungalow. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy a lunch prepared with local ingredients.
In the afternoon, your guide will take you on a walk through the jungle, where you’ll observe Amazonian flora and fauna, including birds.
At nightfall, you’ll experience an exciting caiman safari, navigating the river while observing nocturnal wildlife. You’ll return to the lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 2: Chuncho Clay Lick & Amazon Wildlife with Monkey Island
You’ll wake up at 4:30 a.m. to head by boat to the spectacular Chuncho Clay Lick, the largest macaw clay lick in the world. During the journey, you may spot animals such as capybaras, tapirs, and—with some luck—even jaguars.
You’ll witness an unforgettable natural spectacle: hundreds of parrots and macaws feeding on mineral-rich clay. Afterwards, you’ll return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, you’ll visit Monkey Island, where you can observe capuchin monkeys. In the evening, you’ll explore the river in search of white caimans.
Day 3: Lake Sandoval & Jungle Adventure
You’ll wake up to the sounds of the jungle and, after breakfast, head to Lake Sandoval, located within the Tambopata National Reserve. You’ll travel by boat and then hike 3 km through the rainforest, observing a wide variety of animals and plants along the way.
At the lake, you’ll board a canoe and explore its waters in search of giant otters, caimans, turtles, birds, and more. Afterwards, you’ll return to the lodge to relax and enjoy an Amazon sunset.
At night, you’ll have the option to join a nocturnal walk to discover wildlife active after dark.
Day 4: Canopy Walk & Return to Puerto Maldonado
After breakfast, you’ll enjoy a walk around the lodge and access elevated canopy platforms, offering spectacular views of the jungle. You’ll have the chance to observe birds, and other animals in their natural habitat.
Later, you’ll return by boat to Puerto Maldonado, where you’ll be transferred to the airport or bus station for your departure. Before leaving, make sure not to forget any of your belongings at the lodge or office.

Where is Tambopata Amazon Reserve Located?
Tambopata National Reserve is in southeastern Peru, about 1.5 hours by flight from Lima or 1 hour from Cusco. It’s in the Madre de Dios region, near the border with Bolivia, covering a large area of protected tropical forest.
What is the Climate like in Tambopata Amazon Reserve?
The climate is tropical, with high humidity and heavy rainfall throughout the year. The rainy season is from November to April, with the heaviest rains from December to March. The dry season is from May to October, known for clear skies, cooler temperatures, and lower humidity. However, even in the dry season, it can still rain occasionally.
